    Summary

Ever feel like you don’t know how to relax? I, too, have a toxic relationship with relaxation and I discovered why.

While sitting on the beach in Cancun, I had a revelation. I want to have a great life for myself, but I’m not going to get it doing what I’m doing right now.  Why? Because I don’t own my time and if you work a 9-5 job, you probably don’t own your time either!

It’s not ok that we have to ask for permission to be sick, to visit family, or to go on vacation. I don’t know about you, but I’d like to live on my own terms.

In this episode, I reflect about that with you. This is not scripted. These are my raw reflections on how owning our time really affects what kind of life we live.

So, as you listen I want you to be picturing what your ideal life looks like and how not owning your time may be getting in the way of that.

Key Takeaways To Tune In For

    • If you find yourself anxious in your downtime, or even on vacation, it may be because you feel that you don’t have control over your time. In other words, you may be feeling stressed because you don’t own your time.
    • If you have a job you don’t love, you will find yourself trying to work around it to do the things you do love.
    • When you say “I don’t have time”, it actually means that you do have the time – it’s just that you have committed your time to something else.
    • Taking back control of your time requires you to be intentional with your time.

    Summary

Do you look at some people and wonder why it looks so easy for them to accomplish their goals? But when you reflect on your own experiences, you find that accomplishing your goals is a frustrating experience. Well, it might be because you are trying to do too much all at once.

Making changes in your life can be a smooth and fun process. You don’t need to pull your hair out to become the better version of yourself.

In this episode, I will teach you the easiest way to become the best version of yourself using a technique I’ve discovered that actually works. It is literally so EASY and SIMPLE.

How do I know? Well, I use it everyday myself.

    • [01:12] How intense should you be with your goals from the beginning?
    • [03:05] Example 1: How I broke down my skincare goal into manageable steps.
    • [08:35] Example 2:  10 minute timer hack to come home to a clean space everyday.
    • [11:30] Example 3: How to actually stick to your weightloss goals.
    • [12:44] Why and how you’ll be able to work on 3-5 goals all at once.
    • [17:35] Making sure you don’t quit your goal: being vague vs. being specific and intentional
    • [19:24] If you don’t do this, you will burn out.

Key Takeaways To Tune In For

    • Aggregation of marginal improvement: rather than focusing on improving something all at once, focus on improving 1% at a time.
    • Think of your goal and break it down into small steps then develop skills and/or habits that make getting through these steps easier.
    • You can do more than you think in 10 minutes. Sometimes, spending 10 minutes cleaning can get you further than you think and it will probably make you feel better.
    • In a journal, make a list of all the goals you want to accomplish then prioritize that list. Take 3-5 things at a time. You can afford to do that because you are only doing small things at a time.
    • Identifying exactly how you will accomplish the small steps in your goal is key to you actually following through with it. You must know how you will accomplish the goal, as well as where and when.

Key Takeaways To Tune In For

    • To figure out what you want to do with your life, you must have some level of self-awareness. How do you see yourself living your life?
    • Figure out what your ideal life is and work backwards. Always start with the end in mind.
    • Explore every avenue that you feel like exploring. If it doesn’t work, that’s fine. It is better than living with regret.
    • You don’t have to monetize all your hobbies, but you never know how your hobby may turn into a career.
    • You always learn the most from painful situations. They have all prepared you to become who you are at this point in time.
    • Not everything you engage in has to be for the long term. Some things can just take place for a season. Every season is another building block forming the person you are.
    • Not limiting yourself to a specific box can help you move out of your comfort zone and try new things.
    • To actually achieve your goals, you need to create automated systems that help you achieve your goals.
    • It is in your power to choose what you want to do. You do not have to do something just because it is deemed more acceptable.

“The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don’t have any.” — Alice Walker

    Summary

As harsh as it sounds, the pain you go through is necessary. Without it, you probably wouldn’t be who you are. You wouldn’t know what you know.

We grow in life when we become inquisitive and introspective lifelong learners. Some of the best life lessons you will learn are those that come from your pain.

“We do not learn from experience… we learn from reflecting on experience.” – John Dewey

Tune in to unlock a 3 step road map for what to do when you find yourself in the middle of a painful situation.

    Timestamps

    • [00:01] Episode overview
    • [00:33] The first thing you should do in the middle of a painful moment.
    • [05:20] 4 questions that help you reflect on a painful experience.
    • [07:58] A common mistake you should avoid when reflecting on your pain.
    • [09:04] Why is your pain necessary?
    • [11:18] How I am going to use my pain to help others (one of my life goals).
    • [12:48] My question to YOU (about your pain).
    • [14:21] Who would you be without your pain?
    • [15:56] Having gratitude towards pain (my story).

Key Takeaways To Tune In For

    • In the middle of a painful moment, take the time to feel it. Take time to process it.
    • Focus on things that will help in the long run, not things that will make you feel good in the moment.
    • Once you let out all of your emotions after a painful moment, the next step is to try to reflect on the experience: What went wrong? What part did you have to play? What did you learn?  How will you do things differently next time?
    • The purpose of reflecting on your experience is not to talk about how others caused you pain, the purpose is to reflect about your role.  You cannot control other people, but you can control yourself. It is all about what you can do differently to get the life you want.

    My question to YOU:

What is your pain calling you to do?

How can you help others who are going through what you went through?
